Repressed - 2 Years Later

This post will likely be short since its late, but hopefully will provide a general update of the project. Its been almost 2 years since our last update. A lot has taken place as you can imagine. Since our first blog post a couple things have changed. First, the story, which is still mostly correct in the first blog post but some details have been re-worked in order to bring the game a bit more into reality. Were still working on exact details and enough has changed that we only have bullet points in some areas, but hopefully ill be able to provide a better update on the story later.

The game itself has also changed. We’ve focused on improving our skills in both graphics and code. Working with the new 5.x Unreal Engine and attempting to utilize the new features like Lumen. Lumen deserves its own post but in short, it looks great, and even performs decently. But through our extensive testing, the performance loss and variability is not something we want to include in the current version of the game. So, we are now working on other lighting techniques to get what we want.

From the code side, we completely re-made our inventory system which is relatively bug free and is now in the best working state since. We’ve implemented a new UI system and had to overhaul our menus and inventory UI. While we were taking things apart, I decided to create a new projectile system for the game from scratch. Previously we were trying to use other plugins to do our projectiles, but they never got us exactly what we wanted.

I just recently finished the system and will be posting it to Fab as well. With that done, we are ready to finally re-merge the code into the main game and continue working on other main features.
